At the Crossroads
David began his career as an IT specialist in Singapore after graduating with a Computer Science degree from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Back then, the IT profession was tough and stressful. David had to spend countless nights and weekends in the office.
When the IT consulting firm where David worked got acquired by another company, everyone in his former firm was retrenched and given the golden handshake. Disappointed by this experience, David decided that he no longer desired to work for an employer who would ‘decide’ the fate of his career. Like Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, David wanted to enjoy what he was doing and also be rewarded well for his hard work.

Mind the Mindset
David set his sights on a career in financial advisory.
He joined a financial advisory firm as a Financial Consultant. It was tough initially as David had been an employee all his career and it was difficult for him to change the mindset of expecting instructions from above to outline tasks and targets to achieve. He realised that in financial advisory, he needed to be more of a self-starter and adopt an entrepreneurial mindset.
Within three months on the job, David made a breakthrough and became the top adviser in the firm. He was promoted to Senior Financial Consultant and subsequently Team Manager within nine months.
In 2004, David joined IPP as an Advisory Group Partner with an associate; they managed a small group of 8 advisers and that subsequently grew to 25 at its peak. Unfortunately, a few years later, the partnership had to come to an end when David and his associate parted ways. David faced a career crisis. However, he eventually came around and chose to believe that “Crisis is opportunity if one does not give up!”.

Shifting of Paradigm
Learning from his past failures, David decided to change his business model. Instead of developing new client relationships, he kept his focus on existing clients – going far and beyond just meeting their needs and addressing their concerns.
David places transparency as a top priority when engaging with clients. To help his clients make better informed decisions, he emphasises educating his clients, so that they understand both the positive and negative aspects of a product being recommended.
David’s efforts and his transparent approach with recommending suitable products based on his client’s needs eventually paid off. His sincerity and genuine care for his clients built their trust in him. They referred their relatives, friends and business associates to him year after year. His clients truly appreciate David for his service and professionalism and are testaments to the effectiveness of his approach.

David was highly recommended by a client to our company’s Board of Directors in 2014.
As the Board of Directors have busy work schedules, David makes the effort to accommodate to them and meets them at their convenience. He is patient and takes extra time to explain to each Board Of Director the policy and answer all questions on the health plan. David has outstanding work ethic and answers all our calls even during the weekends or holidays.
A year ago, one of them was diagnosed with atherosclerosis and needed surgery almost immediately. David was on hand to help the family member with all the necessary paperwork so that the Letter Of Guarantee can be processed.
The above is just one of many instances of David’s outstanding work ethic. The Board of Directors and their family members are extremely satisfied with his service and his sincere dedication in supporting them with excellent service.

David has a remarkable work ethic in which he always replies and answers all my calls even beyond office hours.
He patiently took time to explain to me about the policy and answered all my questions regarding the said health plan until I understood the program fully. I am glad David introduced the health plan to me.
When I was first diagnosed with diabetes two years ago, David helped me to check all the necessary documents and paperwork so that the Letter of Guarantee (LOG) could be processed without delay. He also followed up with the insurer to expedite with the issuance of the LOG.

Beyond the satisfaction his work gives him, David appreciates that his profession allows him to spend precious time with his family. He is able to bring them on yearly vacations and have weekday lunches with his children. For himself, he is able to enjoy weekly golf sessions.
